I’m going to make like a stiff gin and serve it to you straight: the next several FYBF’s will be of the indulgent kind.
Why?
Because if you read the fine print on this particular FYBF post, you will know it’s my birthday in 15 shopping days. But who’s counting??
Anyway, the Big W Big Wigs must’ve got wind of it because the other day they generously sent me a voucher to go and spend it on…clothes.
Happy birthday to me.
Shopping in Big W Women’s section was cotton pickin’ easy! When I did a little catwalk of all the awesome finds, Mr Surfer couldn’t believe how cheap yet stylish the clothes were. And he knows better than anybody else how picky I can be.
First stop was the new and exclusive range from Peter Morrissey.
I got a classic black jacket to team up with a gorgeous maxi dress.
I never ever thought I’d have the sass to wear white skinny jeans but here’s a classic example of “Never say never…”
A pretty sleeveless crew shirt to complete the ensemble. And there’s that versatile classic black jacket again.
The beauty about getting older (42 to be exact) is being completely comfortable in my own skin.
I don’t have a super model body but my “puppies” still have plenty of personality.
I’m kind of a rounded, voluptuous shape and damn those stubborn extra 5 kilos. But I have killer pins that can run a 21 kms race and biceps that get the respect they deserve.
I no longer think that expensive means quality. Comfort takes priority. I’m street wise and savvy to know where I can shop to get plenty of bang for my buck.
Age doesn’t stop me from caring about my appearance because I know slapping on some make up and running my hair through a hair straightener does wonders for my self-esteem as an independent, busy woman.
I’m not getting any younger. But I’m definitely wiser, stronger and in complete acceptance of the person I am today.
Yup. Zits, warts, flaws and all.
It’s all about celebrating and embracing the experiences and the years that come with getting older.
As Peter Morrissey himself said, “It’s not only how you look but most importantly, it’s how you feel”
Care to join in for some shopping with moi?

Hi Grace, you look amazing. I love the dress and the jacket combo and girl you are owning those skinny jeans! – and I thought you were about 32 – and not just saying that cause I’m entering a competition ;-). Ok, in terms of me, I commented recently in a post that my fav wardrobe item are my long black boots, so I’ll stick with those. Great with jeans, and great dressed up with a skirt for work. I just feel stylish slipping them on – and yes, I would say a bit special and confident. Cheers, Leanne.

Grace, you’re looking HOT. I find it hard to believe you’re turning 42. Might have to go hunt me down that black jacket. This is such a cliche (and it’s bad – sexist male world has broken me yada yada) but it’s true unfortunately, that slipping on a pair of heels to lengthen those pins and fine the ankles does WONDERS for my state of mind before wandering off for a night out. It’s just not the same in flats (even if my ankles prefer it 😉 Platforms and espadrilles are my friends these days. Same effect … better stability! Happy almost birthday! xxxx

Happy Birthday hun! Glad you enjoyed your shopping spree!
I was surprised recently when Big W opened a store near us and we began to receive catalogues – their stuff was quite hot! Shall have to head on down and check it all out! Love the stripy dress!
My special and confident outfit would have to be my trench coat. It’s pale pink and trimmed with lace. Fitted and a stylish cut – throw it over whatever (and lately it’s whatever goes for this busy Mom), and you’re right to go!
I always get compliments wearing it and who doesn’t feel special and confident after receiving those?!

How fab do you look in those white skinnies!?! Pulling it off, lady! Woot! My wardrobe “go-to” item would have to be a pair of red skinny leg jeans that I acquired semi-recently. They’re baby bump friendly – which is a must at the moment for me – and makes it even more important for me to feel less like a frump, and more fab! They team brilliantly with heels, wedges, flats and boots – perfect for a confidence boost whatever the occasion. A winner in my book! X

Second time lucky??? I sooooo want to win one of these vouchers!! For me a bootleg jean always gives me that confidence boost I need! I’m bottom heavy so this just flatters me anytime no matter what weight! Also my work blazer always saves me as one of my work tops always seems to be stained with something by the time I get to work!! So a blazer always seems to hid the evidence of a strawberry one of my kids threw at me or the sudocream I accidentally have on my top!

2 fashion things:
1. A great haircut and blow-dry.- I truly believe for most women, their whole face would look a lot better if they chose the right haircut. It becomes increasingly important as one ages: a chic haircut that doesn’t require ages to look good daily.
2. a lycra black (running) skort- I don’t jog but I occasionally bike around in it. People do notice it and I feel so free, younger and slightly sexy.

Hi Grace,
I agree with everyone else, you look fantastic! I turned 42 last April(still can’t believe it!)and have always been voluptuous. When I had my first daughter, I was a size 10 dress, but a 10F bra. Everyone said I’d lose a size after breast-feeding, but I went up two sizes instead! Another three children later and voluptuous is a bit of an understatement…! Finding a bra in the size I am now(14H-I cup)that doesn’t look like a ‘Granny’ bra, is so difficult. None of the cheaper shops seem to carry them and I have forked out a fortune on some truly UGLY bras! I’ve even been told more than once by Lingerie store owners that I should just be happy that they managed to find a bra to fit me, and not care about how it looked…! I finally managed to find a couple of truly beautiful bras from Big Girls Don’t Cry Anymore- https://www.brastogo.com.au/ including a gorgeous purple number. When I’m wearing it, I’m confident that my chest is uplifted in a flattering way, with no side-spillage and minimal bounce, and I always feel great… Beautiful Lingerie makes any woman feel wonderful!

I have got this hot pink cotton top that I purchased from the ops shop a few year ago for $8. It’s a size too big but I love it so much. The bright colour never fails to cheer me up. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I wear that top and I feel better. Sometimes I pair it with a skinny jeans and I feel like a super model. Other times, I wear it with a white maxi skirt and it makes me feel so girly and happy. Such a perfect top and I can’t wait for spring to come so I can wear it more often (although I have to admit, I’ve already been wearing it a lot this winter as the weather has been kind to us).
