Once upon a time, identical twin boys were born to excited, brand spanking new parents who didn’t have the slightest inkling of what they were getting themselves into.
After spending their first 2 weeks in NICU, sleeping peacefully in the one cot, side by side, tucked in each other’s nook, the natural transition was to have the same arrangement at home.
As with most new families though, figuring out how to ensure peaceful slumber for both children and parents can be tricky.

At Chez Mama Grace, it was the beginning of syncronised sleeping; twins sleeping the same way at the same time without, of course, realizing it.
For the next six months, they cherished every moment witnessing their twinlets in a pod keeping each other warm and in perfect company.
Alas, as nature commands, the babies grew and continued to thrive. Cries of hunger and flailing arms escaping from swaddles, whacking each other in the face meant no one was getting any decent shut-eye.
Realising that they were going through bittersweet parenting process of watching their newborns move to the next phase of becoming toddlers, mum and dad reluctantly built the second cot.
All those blissful months of perfect sleeping patterns, soon crept out the door. In its place were restless nights.
Exhaustion and sleep deprivation became semi-permanent guests in the household with bleary-eyed mum and dad constantly trying to settle 2 screaming banshees.
Controlled crying left them guilt-ridden and even more fatigued.
Hours spent with arms reaching through the rails, simultaneously patting each of their backs also proved to be futile.
Sleep. Sleeeeeep. Go to sleeeeeeeep!!!
But what seemed like long, endless nights…and days, the years soon whizzed by.
Before long, the search began for proper beds!
As it worked out, the twinions now lie side by side.
Of course, the synchronised sleeping continues.

Those photos of them sleeping side by side now are gorgeous, must be nice and comforting for them to have each other. My 2 and 4 year old share and right now I can hear my youngest talking away and my middle trying to get to sleep, it’s not ideal but the other room, now a spare room, isn’t bright enough to be a bedroom, when they’re older we want to do bunks but then there’s the problem of the fans! xx

They are SO cute! Love how they love each other. Yes, finding the right bed is as harrowing as getting them to sleep in it. Once we got the right comforters, however, everything changed. Go figure, right?

Oh my gosh! That is so gorgeous. I wonder how long they will continue to want to sleep side by side like that? I can imagine them up all night chatting away. Our sleeping hurdle at the moment is my three year old having night terrors. Poor wee love. It’s quite distressing for everyone involved.

The way they synchronize sleep cracks me up, twins are so special xx
I love that bunk bed! Hubby wants to get a bunk for one of the bedrooms eventually.

Oh my goodness, how sweet are they! And I think its tough getting a singleton to sleep! Our biggest hurdle is getting our eldest (3 yr old) to bed at bedtime. As soon as he’s there he is fine though. It got better though after we found out he was allergic to dust mites and got protector covers but it only lasted 2-3 weeks.
Oh Grace I am in love with your twinions. Those photos just melt my heart. What a beautiful bond to be treasured what precious photos to hold onto. Thanks for sharing this little twin insight!

Grace you’re making me clucky by posting those adorable photos of your boys. It’s too late for me and too early for my kids to start having babies though. Guess I’ll have to keep sighing over your photos.

Precious little synchronised sleepers!
We did the controlled crying thing with Bella, and as guilty as I felt, it actually did work. Thank goodness! x

We will be needing to buy a bed for Miss Magdalene. A very timely post for me to read. The first 12 months with the twins would have been hard. Loving those early bub photos. Getting me excited with my new arrival in July.

oh those sleepless nights memories….yet I only had it times one! Funny but when they are teenagers they can sleep for at least 12 hours – not fair!!!
Love how they both sleep in the same position on the beds!
