When I was a kid, my family would spend many a New Year’s Eve at the Indonesian Ambassador’s house, where a HUGE party was always hosted for the Indonesian/Australian community.
It was a blast. Food, dancing, singing. The Indos know how to party.
So, this year, I thought maybe the twinlets were old enough to go along.
I walked into the huge house and was enveloped with many fun, childhood memories.
The festive atmosphere was the same; buffet dinner with plates of satay (meat skewers), fried rice, noodles and many more delectable dishes.
Kids running amok inside and out. Adults trying to have merry conversations, and yelling over the music blaring out of the amplified speakers.
It was sheer chaos and I loved it.
The beautiful gardens, the massive tennis court – all as how I remembered it.
The twinlets seemed to be thrilled to be out at night. We even had them play a little tennis. (As you do on New Year’s Eve).
Alas, all was short-lived. Their energy levels went from 100 to zero in a split second and we ended up only staying for an hour, leaving it to the party animals to ring in the new year.
That’s okay.
I’m just thrilled we actually managed to celebrate a New Year’s Eve.
Maybe this year, we’ll make it to midnight. But I won’t hold my breath.
How was your New Year’s Eve?

Sounds lovely and a great tradition to start. Ours was quite busy with a swim and drinks with some friends in the afternoon, followed by a dash to the beach to watch early fireworks at 9pm – kids loved it but are cranky pants today. Didn’t see in the New Year though 🙂
Wishing you a happy and healthy one Grace!
Emily 🙂

Sounds like it would have been fun! We went to my Mum’s place, didn’t get there till late as Dave didn’t finish till late, and then Mia was really overtired and I struggled to get her to stop crying and go to sleep, she was just too worked up. Eventually got her to sleep by 11pm and then spent the next hour and a half sitting on the lounge colouring in while the boys played cards and watched the fireworks. Pretty tame stuff but it was good to share a few laughs with family.

That does sound like fun 🙂 And that last photo is gorgeous!
I don’t even let my kids know that NYE is a celebratory night, we just put them to bed as usual! We always have a get together, but whether its at our place or a friends, we always put them to sleep well before the ball drops. I like to preempt the over tired out bursts. They have the rest of their lives to party.
I know, I’m so mean.
xx

Your New Years was rockin in comparison to mine. I won’t even bore you with the details – although I think it involved falling asleep before midnight, by myself, with a book stuck to my face. Can’t complain though – 2012 on the whole was incredible x
