You would think that the older we get, the more self-confidence we gain. Therefore, the less inhibitions we have.
If only that were true.
Hang ups from the past fester and permeate in our minds, causing us to fear the new or challenging; keeping us nestled in our comfort zones.
Insensitive words, callous acts snowballs in our fragile hearts, hindering us to trust ourselves less and doubt more. Perceptions become skewed and self-judgment turns to its harshest.
For an extrovert who boasts to have a whet appetite for adventure and adrenalin rushes, on the rare occasion I surprise myself. The zest and zeal to test what’s extraordinary or exciting isn’t as forthcoming. I can no longer be arsed to give it a red hot go.
Maybe all that energy and effort has been drained in raising the twinions. Or perhaps it’s simply because I’m a “responsible” adult now and Ijustdonthavetimetodostupidorsillyanymore.
But there we were, in a huge warehouse filled with high wired amusement. Both for the young and old. Big burly guys with scars on their shaved heads and wearing seriously scary tatts, 5 year old girls in pink in pretty pony tails; it was a mosh pit of different creeds and breeds but all out there with the same purpose.
To jump, bounce and flip.
The fun was intoxicating.
I was itching to transform myself from the supervising, serious parent to one that would leap and spring about. (How apt it was the Easter long weekend).
But something just kept holding me back. It’s hard to explain exactly what. It was a mixed feeling of intimidation and wondering if I was punching (jumping?) above my weight.
Then I just thought, “Feck it”
It took over an hour and a helluva lotta coaxing from my family to just go out and have a go.
But eventually a red hot go, it was.
The twinions looked at me in awe. Mr Surfer hadn’t laughed so hard all weekend. It took me ages and help from 2 random blokes to fish me out. Not to mention also losing my socks in all that cesspool of foam.
But hey.
I still got it, baby.
When was the last time you gave something a red hot go? Can you please buy me a pair of new socks for my next birthday?

That looks like great fun! There is something like this at the leisure centre near where we live and my daughter loves it.
I don’t think I have given anything a red hot go for a long time…if ever.

Good on you Grace!!!! I do understand what you mean, its hard to find the energy to be spontaneous and mischievous when you’re tired, but well done you for finding your inner adventurer! Looks soooooo much fun 🙂
lol that was too funny. Loved the video of you. My girls are super keen to give this a try, we have one not too far away that has just opened up. I’m not sure I could go there but never say never. Right?!
Hahaha…onya! I am far too staid to do anything so uninhibited and carefree (but I admire those who do, immensely!)
🙂

I usually give anything a go too but I have found that as I’ve gotten older, I get butterflies in my tummy when I try and do anything a bit scarey. I’d jump in the foam too if I was pregnant. I would most likely have sunk to the bottom. 🙂

Omg Grace I want to go to one of those places so bad! The only one I know of up here though is on the other side of town over an hr away so we haven’t been. Maybe once bub is older and its a more appropriate activity for her (and not just me) we’ll make the trek.

I love this Grace! I’m now having visions of myself trying to bounce around like that with my giant pregnant belly.. Hmmm probably wouldn’t be the wisest thing! I sometimes think that I handed over a generous chunk of my adventurous/’to hell with it’ side to my son.. especially when i watch some of the stuff he gets up to at the ripe old age of 2! There’s definitely still a streak of it left.. I think the last time I really embraced it was just before I fell pregnant, at a friends 30th ‘Rock Star 80’s’ themed party when i took to the stage (reasonably if not completely sober) and rocked out an air guitar solo, clad in my bodysuit, high waisted shorts and fluro leg warmers. Maybe I was more intoxicated than I thought…. Lol

Good on you for giving it a go Grace, it looks like so much fun! Like I commented on facebook, I would love to take Punky somewhere like that, I’m just so worried she will hurt herself. Or Dave will hurt himself! Maybe when Zee is bigger though, for sure!

Go you! A new trampolining place has opened up locally – I should do us all a favour and go there with the kids. Time for me to see whether I’ve still got it too!!!! Looks like loads of fun x

Dude you totally got VIDEO-BOMBED by a SHOWOFF! LOL! I thought you were gonna flip into the foam pit like she did! Nick’s gymnastics club has classes for parents. I’ve occasionally thought it might be really fun to give it a go, but I’d be so scared I would break my neck I’d probably just belly flop right in ;-0

Oh Grace you crack me up!
I would have been exactly the same. Always nervous about giving things a go the first time. Not sure what that’s about. My kids are the same though, so it must be genetic.

Good on you!! I love to do things like this, and not giving a feck what anyone thinks is actually a bit dangerous sometimes. The thing that really holds me back is the fear of breaking a hip. I’m getting on, you know!

Oh Grace that’s so cute. I am generally up for stupid things, but not scary things. I think there is a video of me somewhere trying to jump/walk on one of those pillow trampoline things at the Big 4 campgrounds while 6 months pregnant, that is extremely ungraceful. But I agree, you don’t necessarily get braver as you get older, but perhaps more “couldn’t be arsed”. And that can work both ways – couldn’t be arsed about looking silly, or couldn’t be arsed to have a go.

I’ve taken my kids to Bounce a number of times now and have not yet committed to any of the elastic delights they offer there. However with those places, you need to decide *before* you go, whether you will be booked for action, rather than mere boring, grown-up supervision. #teamIBOT

I have always genuinely wondered why these places are only marketed to kids! I think it would be great if, as adults, we did the same sort of activities. And hey, they’re probably ‘exercise’ too!

Oh Grace, that made me laugh so hard! Okay, so maybe a career in trampolining is not in your future (is that even a thing??) but you got past the inertia and the moment of doubt and did it anyway. That’s worth more than any triple somersault pulled off perfectly. And in front of your kids too. You are mighty! (And you have such a beautiful way with words too.) xx

Hahahaha! That looks like sooooo much fun! I love it. The last time I gave something a good red hot go would have to be earlier in the week when the boys and I danced away to the Wiggles.. I was out of breathe by the end!
