Keith Urban, please come play at our house…

July 3, 2012 By: mamagrace7152 Comments

Since Darren Percival’s duet with him on The Voice, Mr Surfer seems to have developed a tiny man crush on the suave Keith Urban.

Well actually, I exaggerate. It’s more of an admiration for the country singer’s gifted guitar and song-writing skills.

I’m the one who thinks he’s a hot babe…ahems.

I bought my husband a beautiful acoustic guitar for his birthday a few years ago.  The main intention was to motivate him to play more music and write songs again.

The ulterior motive was to get rid of his old, twangy electric guitar with the worn out amp.

Anywhoo.

Once in awhile when inspiration takes over, Mr Surfer will randomly strum away at a song.  Any song.

Which is great.  Nothing more romantic than a man who plays the guitar.  Well, to me, anyway.

But he’s yet to expand his repertoire and play some new pieces from beginning to end.

He tackles a new song and the opening bars are usually flawless.  But then, when it’s time to take it to the bridge or the chorus…dead silence.

Rather than persevering through the difficult parts, he’ll just start all over again.

Like a little locomotive train, chugging along nicely but then suddenly gets stuck at the bend. Only to reverse all the way back to the station.

So, now that we have this sudden love for all things Urban, Mr Surfer has been diligently studying YouTube tutorials on how to play like Keith, particularly “Without You”.

With its soulful melody, flowing guitar riffs and moving lyrics, you can see that Nicole’s found herself a very nice catch, indeed.

(Take that, Tom!)

Yet, in his attempts to get this one right, Mr Surfer is back to being a broken record.

With the guitar on his lap, sitting in front of the computer, we find ourselves in a repeated scenario:

Play YouTube clip

Pause

Play guitar

Stop

Click back to the beginning

Repeat…

Aaarrgh!

It all got too much last Friday night.

As I was on my laptop anyway, I thought I’d take a shot in the Twitterdom darkness.

I made a plea to Keith…

Still awaiting response from Nashville.

My hubby has also developed a tiny man crush on the suave Keith Urban..and yes, I am also projecting 🙂

I never understood the whole Keith Urban ‘thang’ until “The Voice” but it’s nice to reclaim him as another Aussie spunk!

At least Mr Surfer is musically inclined. My hubby is completely tone deaf and leaves me running for cover when he sings!

Oh, Mr Surfer is tone deaf too! I always have a good giggle when he sings along in the car. Then he has the audacity to correct me when I sing. Can you believe it ?? 🙂
So glad Australia now recognise Mr Urban’s fine talents.

I hope he gets back to you! You have my sympathies in the mean time.. I remember the learning new songs on musical instruments from my siblings growing up. Thankfully my hubby picks up new songs quickly so I don’t have to go through that anymore.

I never really got the whole Keith Urban thing until The Voice but I love him now!

I must say I never paid much attention to Keith in the past but after watching him on the Voice, I must say I’ve a soft spot too. He’s just such a lovely man. Generous, sensitive, creative, not bad on the eye, an attractive package indeed! As to guitars, mine is sitting in the corner gathering dust. I never learnt properly but I intended to get to it. Ah well, one day.

Grace, I could’ve written this. My husband is a guitarist who rocks out the first few bars (I accidentally knocked over his gorgeous acoustic and so I’m stuck with the electric – KRRRAANNNNGGG!) but never moves beyond that.

When you’re done with Keith, send him this way please?
