In a desperate bid to stop my two monkeys climb the walls and more importantly, the furniture, a trip to the cinema seemed to be the perfect solution.
Slim pickings on a Tuesday morning, we went with Postman Pat the Movie.
Now there’s 87 minutes of my life I won’t get back.
For the sake of an entertaining #FYBF post, I thought of taking some photos throughout the torturous viewing but who needs spoiler alerts, right?
Besides, I was too busy dealing with the twinions’ demands to run to the back of the huge screen and “Switch it ooooffff !!!”
Nothing like a spectacular preview of the new Planes movie prior to mislead the boys into delirious excitement only to have it all crashing.
“What happened to Dusty? Wait. What? I got Postman Pat instead?”
Truth be told, for all the cheesy kids shows out there, I love me a bit of Postman Pat and his black and white cat.
My dad was a postie, an awesome one at that.
Looking absolutely dapper in his uniform, coming home after a day of zipping around town delivering mail on his little ringky dink 250CC motorbike, there were plenty of stories of lovely elderly women who would lovingly leave him a cookie and milk at their mailboxes. Then there were the nasty accidents that saw him come out of hospital with bandaged knees and elbows.
Not a postie but another amazing dad is Mr Surfer.
I could not have pulled off any of those half marathons or City2Surf runs without his steadfast and unwavering support.
While I put in endless hours of training, he’s dedicated just as much time ensuring our ship sails smoothly.
Sneaking out of the house to pull off the nighttime photo shoots, there was my fleet’s 1st (and only) mate taking over on dinner, bath time and bed duties.
You know what, you’re all right, Mr Surfer.
I know you said that all you wanted this Father’s Day is “A big sloppy kiss and a slap across the chops” but I think I can do better than that.
After all, you do. All the time.
Happy Father’s Day to all our dads, granddads, stepdads and role model dads. We will remember fondly and dearly miss those who are no longer with us.
Got anything special planned this Father’s Day?

Ah, little kids and cinemas are NOT my favourite combo! Good on you for sticking out 87 minutes worth!

Yes Grace we sat through the torture that is the Postman Pat Movie as well!!! After 30mins Miss Money was bouncing from seat to seat, luckily the cinema was empty – no surprise there!!! Let’s just say they should stick to 15 min episodes! MAX!!!

What a handsome chap your Dad was. I can imagine the elderly women after him 🙂 I could think of nothing worse than sitting through 87 minutes of Postman Pat, although 87 minutes of Thomas would come close. Hope Mr Surfer has a lovely father’s day 🙂

Oh 87 minutes of Postman Pat would be TOUGH. I struggle enough with watching the Thomas movie and Fireman Sam on repeat. I also now refuse to watch Bob the Builder – so annoying!! Mr Surfer is an amazing Dad, I hope you all have a great Father’s Day xx

OMG! Grace – your Dad and yourself could pass off as TWINS!!
I love Postman Pat! Haven’t seen it at the cinemas though – and won’t now!
The single worst movie I ever saw at the cinema with kids was Pooh Bear. Nearly cried with the boredom. From memory, my toddlers almost did too.
Needless to say we are not Pooh fans here!

Lovely post (and as always, I hope you showed him!)
I remember when I was little always waiting to wave to the postie, and I’m sure your dad had lots of little fans along his route too, Grace
Even though Bell’s past watching it now, I still yell “there’s Postman Pat!” every time we see a postie. Then naturally we both start looking for his black and white cat……meow!!!!! xx

I love how ‘My dad was a postie, and an awesome one at that’ rhymes with ‘Postman Pat and his black and white cat’! Ah, the song rewriting possibilities…
Happy Father’s Day to Mr Surfer and to all dads everywhere! Lovely post. (And I hope the twinions get to see the new Planes movie at some stage… that’s just too funny.)

How gorgeous is your Dad in his postie outfit?? Posties certainly don’t look that dapper anymore!
I was tempted to take the Vicklets to Postman Pat but I’m not so sure after a few reviews like yours…. Maybe I’ll send Mr Vick with them? 😉 I’ve got a good type like Mr Surfer. A day for them sounds so justified.

Have a lovely and glad you told me about Postman Pat, I was considering taking the boys but maybe I’ll save $203 for another day – well I know it’s not that pricey but I do LOVE popcorn! x

I like Postman Pat and didn’t realise there was a movie! We had a Postman Pat show recently at our shopping centre and Esther loved it. For Father’s Day I’m having my dad and Grandpa over for afternoon tea. It should be a nice relaxing weekend.

“Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat! Early in the morning, when the day is dawning…” We always dropped by the Postman Pat ride at our local shopping centre. There’s just something so dorky and English about Pat that makes my eyes mist over…
Thanks Grace for that foray into sentiment and nostalgia – can’t stop singing Postman Pat now!!!!

I’m right there with you Grace, this ship wouldn’t run without my awesome husband. I think my girls are so lucky to have such a great Dad! Sadly he is on night shift over the weekend so won’t get to celebrate, but I plan on making up during the week. So instead we are heading to my sisters for a BBQ with my dad.

I won tickets to the postman pat movie lol. Now I know how awesome its going to be I’m looking forward to it even more (not). I’m excited about the dvd I won with it though cos I think I’ll have much more success getting a 13 month old to sit through 10 minute episodes than an 87 minute movie.

My boys used to love Postman Pat but we haven’t watched the movie. I couldn’t have endured 87 minutes of Postman Pat! Dang! Now I can’t get that Postman Pat song out of my head.
