“Wild” is one of those movies that captivated me from the get go.
Cheryl Strayed is a broken woman who sends herself on a journey of self-discovery. With nada experience, training and preparation, she impulsively decides to hike 1,100 miles through the desert and harsh terrain of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Crazy.
I just wish my husband saw it before he decided last minute that we’re going camping this weekend.
At least we’re one ahead of Cheryl because in less than 24 hours before taking suggested trip, my husband had the brilliant idea to first test build the kick-arse, who-needs-the Hilton, three room tent.
In the front yard.
Free entertainment for the entire neighbourhood.
Concerns were first raised when Mr Surfer pulled out all the awning poles out of the tent bag big enough to fit a corpse.
Poor guy just glared at the long pieces of aluminium.
“Three…I only need three. Sooo, why are there six?”
The puzzled look quickly turned to one of desperation when trying to read the instructions:
“Why? Why??? I don’t understand why!”
I tried to be helpful. Suggesting perhaps that there were six poles because three were for the front and the other three were, um…for the back?
Anyway, we eventually figured it out.
I’m just relieved that the tent is another thing my husband can get up.
Ahems.

Me? Hell no! Not a camper!
Maybe I could try it in that tent. It looks pretty spacious. (We’d need two.)
Nope…not a camper!
Good luck!

That looks very similar to our old tent. We’ve just purchased a new one because the old one didn’t survive the move over to Perth. It wasn’t packed correctly and ended up ripped. It took us a few years to actually get the tent out and discover this.
We picked up the new tent for an absolute bargain on gumtree before Christmas. It was the dream $800 tent I had my eye on and only used once and we picked it up for just $200.
It’s like our old one, except it has a fourth screen room at the front. Can’t wait to get out and try it. What I don’t like about camping is packing up the entire house to take with you and all the cleaning once you are home.

I’m certainly a non camper and haven’t been since I was about 12 years old. Maybe when the boys are a little older I will change my mind and go camping with them, but I will require at minimum a working toilet!

I’m no camper so I would be hopeless working out how to put up the tent! But that tent looks amazing… and three rooms? That’s awesome.

OMG! Now you have to go through the tent setting up all over again. How painful! We went camping with our 10 man tent only once. I’m not sure when we will feel up to it again, especially now that we have a toddler. He needs contained. I do romanticise camping though. The sitting around the campfire with marshmellows gets me every time, well that one time.
Have fun!

You’re a braver woman than I! My idea of camping is a cabin in a caravan park. I may even stretch it to a caravan but that’s about as far as I’ll go lol.

Have a fabulous time. I do like camping if it”a glamping and someone else puts the tent up! We camped last year, although we just strolled into our friends caravan which was set up like the hilton, so I’m not sure if that counts. Yep come to think of it, I’m more a cabin or apartment type of girl.

That is hilarious! We haven’t done the camping thing yet but are contemplating and I mean contemplating it this Easter. I used to camp with mum, dad and my siblings every single year growing up. It was always Eden as well until one year they decided to treat us to Mildura. 🙂 Have an awesome time xxx

I think camping is the reason hotels were invented… 🙂 But your description of the tent-erecting process made me laugh! One of my daughters wanted a tent for her birthday one year…so we got her a four-person tent, which has only ever been used in the backyard! (And loaned to other families who need a tent for the odd occasion.) I remember well the first time we tried to put it up…sheesh…where’s the nearest Holiday Inn?

Have a fun weekend in your Taj Mahal tent. I hope you are going for two nights – it is never worth the effort of packing and set up for only one and I couldn’t bear to camp longer than 2 nights. I really don’t think I could do a ‘Wild’ – still haven’t seen the movie but would love to.

We love camping but it has taken us a few years to make it look easy. Now I get all 4 kids to help set up and we get everything done in 40mins (use to take us nearly 2 hours). Enjoy your time away, and make sure you bring a good board game you all can play – oh and a pack of UNO cards. The boys will love it

We haven’t been brave enough to go camping as a family yet. I’m cool with getting grotty, I just think my husband and I might kill each other in the process of things like putting up tents! We are both total control freaks and always seem to interpret the instructions differently. There’ve been tears over Ikea book cases in the past! I’m sure it would all be worth it though for a memorable holiday 🙂

Hahaha, I hope you enjoy camping Grace! My Hubby and I used to love camping (not in the wild though, has to be in a caravan park with running hot water!) before we had kids. We haven’t been as a family yet, Hubby has been eager to take the girls but I have been holding off until they were a little older…which seems to be now. I guess we’ll have to plan a small weekend trip to see how they enjoy it, which I’m sure they will 🙂

Hope you had a great camping adventure. I need to get myself a car camping tent as all I have is a lightweight tent for hiking. Where did you guys go camping?

I cannot think of a movie that I’m less interested in. I love Reece Witherspoon but maybe because I just don’t like reading inspirational novels, I am not interested in this movie? Or perhaps it’s my conviction that anything less than four stars, or places where the hairdryer is permanently affixed to the wall, is what I class as camping?

Happy camping! We’re heading off in a couple of weeks for some campery times. We love it but last attempt (almost 12 months ago) was disastrous with a bed wetter and a newly crawling infant. Gahhhh! No camping for me … a good friend once said to me that she only stars she camps under are 5 stars and that is pretty much my motto! Although sometimes I make an exception and lower it to four stars 🙂 Definitely a good idea to test out the tent first – have a great time!

Oh, my, I love, love Wild and just quietly, I think this is a supremely sensible approach to camping – no long car trips with kids, use of full kitchen with fridge and a safe place to retreat if it all gets a bit stormy – genius. We used it to camp in our back yard – it was my favourite thing x
Glad you have a hubby who can still get the tent up…eventually! haha we are campers too as it is too expensive these days holidaying any other way. I will have to get to the movie-looks good xx
