FYBF – Celebrating in Solitude

August 19, 2016 By: mamagrace7126 Comments

Lethargy and I have been getting a little too familiar with each other over the past few weeks.

Despite the early bedtimes, mornings were met with gritty eyes and a fog-filled, heavy head.

Maybe it was just a case of SADs.

Needless to say, I was dreading my post operation appointment on Monday morning.

Another one of those things dealt with apprehension and worry for a woman about to hit her 40’s right smack bang in the middle (Next Wednesday to be exact).

In the end, it all went well. My doctor gave me a copy of the images she took during the operation. Apparently, I had multiple polyps. Fortunately, all benign.

FYBF - Celebrating in Solitude.2

Even though I knew exactly what the procedure was going to entail, it’s still freaky knowing there was a camera in my uterus, which incidentally looks like the ninth undiscovered planet of the solar system.

Polyps have a tendency to reappear so if things don’t feel right down there over the next three to six months, I’ll need to return.

Everything was pretty much covered over a brief 15 minutes.

I walked out emotional and teary. Mortality had slapped me hard, bent me into shape.

It would’ve been easy to just give a sigh of relief and simply go about my hectic day.

Instead, I used my “All Clear” ticket to celebrate. Really be grateful for an awesome doctor who encouraged me to get proactive in giving myself a better quality of life.

There was a two hour window where I didn’t have to be anywhere, do anything.

The cinema was right across the road from the doctor’s office and “Absolutely Fabulous” was showing in 30 minutes.

FYBF - Celebrating in Solitude

I am terrible at grabbing spontaneous opportunities, only to later complain how I never have any time for myself.

That morning, I decided to make a change.

Buying a bucket of popcorn bigger than my face and a sneaky glass of wine (Licensed cinemas for the win!), I took solace in the cinema darkness.

I celebrated my life in perfect solitude. Pass the Bolly, darling.

Do you grab those rare opportunities of solitude? Seen “Absolutely Fabulous” yet? What are you celebrating this week?

    Congrats on the good news.
    Congrats on the solitude!
Congrats on finding that 9th planet … (it sooooo looks like a planet!)

I have never ever been to the movies alone. I should try that …

I LOVE going to the movies by myself – it’s like meditation (which I can’t do) – you shut everything out, and it all washes over you – you come out totally relaxed….

So pleased the procedure went well. I’ve been partaking in one new thing a week for 4 years this week. My attempts lately have been rather lackluster, something I’m hoping to change. Because a change is as good as a holiday and I could do with both right now.

Perhaps treating myself to gold class might be in order.

The placenta really does look like a planet – congratulations on your good news. There really is no feeling like it. I celebrate every year for a year inbetween my specialist appointments, because after a cancer diagnosis you’re only as well as your next test results. I like to see those gaps as windows of opportunity to cram as much living in to as enjoyably possible. I’m so pleased you spent your time so wisely, just remember, a bit of GT (Grace Time) should not be a one time only event!

Congrats Grace, and good on you for celebrating on your own and really making the most of your free time. I haven’t done that in ages, even though my days are free during the week when the kids are at school.

I used to go to the movies by myself so frequently before kids but do you think I’ve done it since? Nope. I’m glad you did it. Taking the time for yourself especially after a vulnerable time with the procedure you had. I’m glad it all went well xx

I felt for you reading this…so much waiting for news that we hope is OK..and yours is. Taking time for ourselves…how did it get to this, that we need to MAKE it happen? I know exactly what you mean. Being a mum/wife automatically seems to put ‘me’ in the third spot doesnt it? No more! What is your alone time planned this week coming up? Running doesnt count…I mean truly being and doing something for you!! Give yourself permission G… 45 coming up and you can do this!! Love, D xxx

Hello. Yes it is tough and sad when things worry us. But, for all those ‘turn your world upside’ times, I try to make sure the nicer times outweigh those challenging times. If I want some precious time to myself, I will organise dinner in the morning. I’ll get out my magic crockpot, throw everything in, then go and treat myself to a coffee shop morning tea or a sit on the verandah with my cuppa, while dinner cooks slowly along. Glad to hear all was well. Yes, I so want to see Absolutely Fabulous. Maybe during the school holidays I’ll have more day time hours for morning tea, movie and lunch. Much good health!
