Do you remember your first Mother’s Day ?
The twinlets were barely 3 months for mine. I had just come out of an excruciatingly painful 2 month bout of nipple thrush. I was severely sleep deprived and hells cranky.
There was definitely no joy that day. No flowers or chocolates.
Instead, I ended up having a massive morning blow-up with Mr Surfer.
To escape the wrath of his crazed wife, he took the boys for a long walk . And I caught up on some much needed sleep.
When the grumpiness subsided, Mr Surfer handed me a card. In it, was a simple, yet heartfelt mention how much my family appreciate me as their mum. Especially during those miserable months of breast feeding in agony. With a little help from their dad, my little boys had also scribbled their names.
The love in that card could melt candle wax.
And that’s all I needed for that day.
No glamour. But every bit memorable.
However you spend it this year, hope yours is a fabulous one ! You deserve it.

Yes, in those early days all we needed was to catch up on sleep and get a nice heart-felt letter. I’m hoping for a new purse (my old one is falling a part). That would make me happy this time around, although a little extra sleep wouldn’t go astray!

My first Mother’s Day was with a 5 week old newborn and so little sleep that when a few friends called me to wish me a happy day, I was sincerely puzzled. I think I spent much of the day ‘processing’ – that I was in fact a momma and it felt intimidating, scary, crazy and beautiful and impossible – all at once xx

Ah, as always, Kirri – you nailed it…”intimidating, scary, crazy and beautiful and impossible…”
I was a little sad to think that everyone had a better Mother’s Day than me…but then the card just changed all of that 🙂

I don’t really remember my first Mother’s Day. I think it was just a few days after Lil Pumpkin was born so I was still in the hospital. This yr however, is the first time she made me a handmade card and we actually “celebrated”. So very touched 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day in advance to you!!

Mum of Adult Kids says
I never make a big deal about Mother’s Day, but my most memorable also involves just a card. A card left by my eldest son about four years ago. I had asked him to move out of my house a few months earlier due to his unacceptable behaviour, so he wasn’t speaking to me at the time. He wrote that although we didn’t see eye to eye that he appreciates everything I do for him and that he loves me.
He had not given me a card since the days when he made them at school, so that made it extra-special. Thinking about that card, and the words he had written still brings tears to my eyes! (I haven’t received a card from him since!)

Happy Mother’s Day Grace, and FYBF readers who are mums, have a mum, wanna be a mum, you know who you are….
Let’s not get too caught up with the DAY even though it is there…on the calendar both ‘hallmark’ and ‘regular’.
Originally it was called Mothering Sunday, and was a church-originated day, which we took as it seems and morphed it into this day. We celebrate on the same day as US but in UK it is sometime in March (according to memory)
There it is…a day for honouring our mothers. When you become a mother too, then it raises different issues and emotions – for me anyway – which is why I wrote my post about Mother’s Day from my 3 perspectives.
Grace, I salute you as a devoted and twin-bound new mumma who had nipple thrush…O M G…never had it but thrush and all its nastiness, is a B U G G E R…such a trial for you, yet you continued to feed. Because as a mum…that’s what you do.
Love you… Denyse xx

I didn’t know that about Mother’s Day, D ! Thanks for sharing ! Yes, I know that we celebrate it the same day as US (as is same in Japan) but I know Father’s Day is different from the US (because it was different from Japan !)
Thrush was nasty…and beyond ! But I survived (not sure how! Lol !) But it was the acknowledgement in that card that really mattered to me.
Have a fab day with your gorgeous family on Sunday! You, my dear friend, truly deserve it ! xxx

My boy was 5 weeks old on my first mothers’ day.
We went out for lunch and I got a diamond pendant. I love that necklace. We made a big deal out of the first mothers day and fathers day. Every year, all I want is flowers…. sometimes I just go and buy them myself.
and breastfeeding twins? ouch.

Yes, I breastfed those boys right up to the age of 1. I will never forget the pain of nipple thrush and I wouldn’t even wish it on my worse enemy :-s

Have already advised #1Hubby not to get me anything by proxy from The Feral Threesome. Instead, I am going out – all day. I will wine and dine and be an adult, returning home in time for him to provide me with dinner and a suitable amount of Mummy time to say that I did spend some degree of Mothers Day with the kids. Yes, I already feel guilty. Yes, I am dead serious that this is how I’m spending my day.

My first mother’s day my son was about six months old and I remember dinner at my mother-in-laws where she ambushed the night by inviting her sticky beak neighbour over who insisted on knowing when I was going back to work…obviously so I could hand over the grandchild. Never happened. Thankfully they’ve gotten better. Hope you have a lovely day tomorrow x
