For those of you who will be there, when we meet at Problogger in 3 weeks, I will be faring as a 43 year old.
43. Wow.
I still stand by my philosophy that age is an attitude.
If there’s anyone to prove that to me, it’s my recently turned 80 year young mother.
(I’m banking on inheriting her flawless, wrinkle free skin)
Yet, it’s so simple to believe that we have ample time on this earth. What doesn’t get done today will happen tomorrow.
Or will it?
43 sounds seasoned. Mature, even. (Like how I’m steering away from the word ‘old’?)
And for all of the mishaps, there’s been many a conquered adventure.
Climbed the Great Wall of China on a blistering cold Christmas Day (WTF were we thinking??!),.
Slept head to toe, squashed in a lodge with a bunch of strangers, to wake up at some ungodly hour to climb the rest of Mt Fuji and be rewarded by a magical sunrise.
Somehow managed to overcome vertigo when scuba diving 40 metres through deep blue, almost space like water in the Philippines to discover a far gone yet amazing ship wreck.
I have still yet to tell the twinions that in the pristine waters of Okinawa, Mama found Nemo.
But shouldn’t there be more?
The wonderful thing about bucket lists are the infinite possibilities. It’s a free license to let you to dream big and crazy. Regardless of time, money and munchkins.
I figure with a birthday looming, now is as good as ever to undertake what would make my heart burst with high pumping adrenalin and my mind stay young and kooky.
As another ring grows around this tree, I share with you, my Bucket List.
Life is short. But long enough for second chances and rectify regrets. Nor too late to make a whimsical request for a bit of Ryan Gosling-ness. Ahems.

Holy cow, woman, you look amazing for 43! I love your list too – and you sure have done some pretty cool stuff. On my list is definitely to write a few books, brush up on my Spanish (I used to be good at it) and head to South America, and run a marathon (maybe New York, maybe Paris, maybe London, maybe Boston – we could go together!).
I think it’s great to spend some time thinking about this stuff – reminds us what’s important and gets us out of the everyday. I’d hate to get to the end of my life and realise I’d forgotten to do that stuff.

Wow you have been on some amazing adventures! I love that Helen Keller quote too 🙂 As far as the bucket list goes, I can help with the learning Italian part, but there’s no way I’m helping you be an extra in a Ryan Gosling film (even if i could!) I’d be way too jealous!!

Ryan Gosling movie, haha! Love your list. I haven’t really thought about it in terms of a bucket list. When I want to do something I tend to get out there and try to just do it! Visiting Vienna is something that hasn’t happened yet. I don’t really have the travel bug but that’s definitely on my list.

Love what you have on your list Grace! You have done some great stuff. I have done quite a few things that I look back on and think “Wow, I did that!”. On my bucket list is living abroad again, much more travel, starts a business (one day…far…far in the future), learn great photography and editing skills… can’t think of anymore but I’m sure I will think of many more through the day. Love to dream, this is a great posts to start my day. Thanks. x

I have so many things on my bucket list, funnily enough all them include some sort of travel. My main one is actually quite tame and quiet achievable. I just want to take off for 6 months in our own caravan and travel around Australia. This will probably have to wait until I am a “Grey Nomad” however…..

I would love to yodel on the Alps, watch the Northern Lights, visit Santa’s village in Lapland, swim with dolphins , visit more countries….
I saw a real Liger ( a hybrid cross between a lion and a tiger) in Korea (checked), visited Stonehenge (checked), shook Air Supply’s Russel Hitchock’s hand (checked) and so far have visited 13 countries in total.
Loved your post as always, Grace.
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad says
You’ve done some really cool stuff. Love your sense of adventure!
I reckon everyone should live overseas for 6 months. It’s good to get one of their comfort zone, learn about a new culture, perhaps a new language, see life through a different perspective. I’ve got that one on my list too for sure.
I could see you running the Boston and I was inspired to learn Italian when I returned back from Italy but couldn’t commit to it enough to make progress. Doing it in a class situation would be the way to go I reckon!
I have no doubt you will achieve all of those things! I’m not sure what’s on my bucket list…. maybe a good nights sleep would be the first!

Rather than focusing on the future and dreaming, I also like the idea of doing a reverse bucket list that notes everything that you have already achieved. I do this because most bucket lists rotate around travel something I have yet to do, and financially seems a long long way off. I can get stuck feeling like I’ve done nothing and never will. By writing down everything I have accomplished, it is self esteem boosting and makes me feel like maybe, one day, I will be in a position to look forward and dream.
