I’m so tempted to do a donkey vote this Saturday because the candidate choices are all donkeys.
Or should that be monkeys?
Whatever.
I don’t usually care too much about politics but for some reason this election has got me completely riled up.
I’m not hearing policies from either party. There’s only relentless banter.
No one has won me over on important issues like asylum seekers (Yes, Mr Morrison, buying Indonesian fishing boats is going to solve the issue AND save taxpayer’s money…WTF???).
And will everyone please stop the bickering and just build us Australians a robust, future-centric broadband network? We deserve it. Especially those in rural areas.
I do like what the Greens have to say, though. I think. If I could read it. Ahems.
And speaking of articulate politicians, have you seen this hilarious clip from our potty mouth Prime Minister? KRudd, “the bottom line is” you couldn’t have said it better. No, really. You couldn’t.
I could go on and on but I’m not going to give politicians any more than the 5 minutes they deserve. And that’s being generous.
So, let’s just leave it at that and be done with September 7. Election be gone!

It is a sad situation when we are not deciding who best to lead the country, but who won’t make the majority of Australians worse off (and with the Liberal slashing of Foreign Aid, I guess we’re extending our impact of hurting the less fortunate on a global scale – YAY US!).
On a funny note, the Powerhouse has an upcoming Beatles exhibition and Bob Katter was apparently one of the Anti-Beatles protesters who threw eggs at them when they arrived at thee airport…that’s my political story for you all.

I think you have beautifully articulated why I’m so cheesed off with the election as well – it is the sound bytes and light weight policy detail and the focus on why you shouldn’t vote for the other side rather than really showing why we should vote for them. At least it will all be over again soon….

Yes, Yes. I don’t know anyone who feels anything other than disenchantment with the whole political process. And as a former journo, I am increasingly disillusioned with media coverage that trivialises, editorialises and generally renders political debate even worse than the politicians make it themselves.

Yes, a total pack of donkeys for sure, Grace! I was surprised that the election is actually tomorrow, it feels like we’ve heard absolutely no policies, yet now we have to decide which goose to choose!
OK rant over, off to deal with the important isssues….. school lunch 🙁

Urgh, election election election. Just hurry up and go away! This morning I’ll try and find some place to vote early where a toddler tornado won’t disturb a queue, then I’m switching off. I know who I’ll vote for, but I’m not happy about it, and hate feeling like that. Have a great weekend, Grace. 🙂 Katie from Mumabytes x

I’m unimpressed with the campaign from both major parties, but just can’t do the donkey vote thing. I think you’ve got to vote properly to justify moaning about the state of things, otherwise you haven’t done your bit.
That said, I live in one of the safest seats in the country, so any vote of mine that isn’t for the incumbent is basically just a hope that someone else will get some funding! x

I think the worst part about elections and government is that each party is pigeon holed into certain ideals/beliefs, when I bet MOST people would like to take a little bit of each party’s policy and put them all together into a candidate that doesn’t exist. Why is that?!!? Why can’t families, small business and refugees ALL win?! I have friends and family terrified that if the libs get in they’ll end up jobless and lose their homes. I hope it’s all fear-mongering and everyone is over reacting and in the end, everyone will end up just fine, regardless of who is in control. Perhaps I am naive. Either way, I can’t wait for it all to be over and for everyone to be able to get on with life. xo

I’m no apologist for Labor’s shambolic performance which sadly over shadowed some of the good things they achieved like NDIS and Gonski. And I know it shouldn’t be a popularity contest. You vote for the party not the leader. Yet with all that in mind, I simply cant abide Tony Abbott. Ugh!

“You vote for the party not the leader” – I so agree with you! Which what makes me so furious about this election campaign. I don’t feel we’re dealing with it in a democratic process because of all the personal bashing! Beyond that, I hate the idea of Tony Abbott being PM too!
Karen says
I think there are Sooo many people disillusioned about this election! The asylum seeker issue, should be a non issue, they are Legally seeking refuge, how hard is that to understand!! I think future generations will be pretty disgusted with the way we treat the worlds neediest people! Not to mention cuts to foreign aid too… What a shambles!!! x Karen

Oh Grace, I think the rest of Australia is with you.
It is a day out from voting and the majority are undecided. You are so right. We deserve much, much better.
The other scary thing is exactly where does your vote go if you want to place your vote with the other parties? I have read the sites that supposedly make it easier to understand, but I must be too stupid or to0 impatient because it made no difference once I had read through them (or did I scan them). I don’t know, I am fed up and again we deserve so much more from our two major parties!

He he he! Great post! I agree totally. I wanted to write a post for Money Mummy on what policies each side had regarding families, childcare, education etc but all I found were words, no facts and few well defined policies. So I gave up! I write regularly on the budget, superannuation where the rules change every 10 seconds and I could find that many policies that were concrete. How are we meant to decide when all we have are a profusion of words without concrete meaning?

I’m with you Grace. I’m SO disillusioned by politics lately. I dread the outcome of this election yet I want it over. So sick of all the ads on tv, the people on street corners wasting their time waving banners, the childish crap I’m seeing on tv. Best not to get me started on this topic. I voted weeks ago, postal vote because the thought of standing in line for an hour or so with an active toddler makes me cringe. It really did seem like a question of who I disliked the least rather than one of who I want running the country. It kills me that so many people are uneducated on the core policies and values of each party and just listen to the election spin which is (I guess) what they’re all counting on.
