The Australian National Maritime Museum: Of Ships and Rescuers

April 15, 2013 By: mamagrace715 Comments

With the twinlets getting a little older and they have well and truly dropped all day sleeps. Their energy levels have reached an all time chaotic peak. Mr Surfer and I struggle to find new activities.

So, it was an absolute God-send when the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) invited us to check out their interactive children’s exhibition, Rescue and Family Fun Day, held on Sunday, 7th of April.

It was all perfect timing as daylights savings had just been deemed over earlier that particular weekend and of course, the twinlets were off to a flying 5:30am start.

Arriving at the Museum, we were first greeted by friendly firemen who kindly let the twinlets experience their first ride on a fire truck.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Maritime Museum without getting on board the ships! (Being extremely claustophobic, I had to pass on surveying the submarine).

Finding out what a Navy Destroyer’s kitchen served  for breakfast, lunch and dinner…

And not quite succeeding…

The good news is – we had a fabulous time!!! The twinlets loved climbing on all the Rescue equipment and exploring around the ships. (Just remember, all children have to be at least 90 cms tall to board ).

The bad news is, we had so much to see and do, we didn’t get around to actually seeing the Rescue interactive exhibition.

Back to the good news though, the exhibition is on until the 14th of July! There’s also a Kids on Deck craft program that wil be running every Sunday during school term and every day during the school holidays.

Luckily, the ANMM have generously provided us with a complimentary family Big Ticket (entry for a family of 2 adults and 3 children) so we’ll be sure to return very soon.

Did your children go through the curse of daylight savings?
Do you ever run out of activity ideas for them?

***This is not a sponsored post! The ANMM invited us to visit the museum and write a review of the Rescue exhibition and the Family Fun Day. We were given a complimentary family Big Ticket. As always, opinions are my own and I didn’t have to go in any submarines if I didn’t want to…phew!
