This is my last #FYBF post for the year so bear with me as I get a little reflective.
Every Monday morning, I get prepped for our sales meeting conference call. There’s firstly the usual drivel of sales figures and customer complaints that cause me to hit the mute the button and have a long yawn.
Then inevitably at the end of the call, each of us are asked 2 questions:
“What was your ‘wow’ for the week?”
“What was your learning?”
The whole wow question is a concerted attempt from my boss to get her sales team “pumped”, conjuring some ‘rah-rah’ excitement and ambition.
So, I can’t help but giggle when my colleagues answer with radio silence.
Good thing I’ve got my finger close to that mute button.
But as 2015 draws to a close, I started wondering what my ‘wow’ and my learning was from this past year.
The discovery of Netflix? A definite ‘wow…with a small learning about binge watching and subsequent sleep-deprivation.
My Big Bang Theory Lego Set? A HUGE WOW with a dash of “Squeeeee!!!”
Lego will always be evil, sharp pieces of shrapnel piercing my feet but I pleasantly discovered how therapeutic it is to follow a picture book of instructions and learn how to build Leonard and Sheldon’s lounge room.
However, if I was to jump out of the shallow end of the pool into the deep, my ‘wow’ of the year? It would be regaining self-confidence in returning to work. After a five year hiatus, it was still there after all.
But man, it comes with some severe bone deep exhaustion. The couch and me? We’re like…that!
And from all the juggling of family and work, the biggest learning lies in self-preservation. Knowing that enough is plenty.
We’re all just doing the best we can. Getting by as well as time, circumstance and (what little left) energy allows us.
But it’s also okay to step back a little when life gets overwhelming.
Grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner will suffice.
Calling a client back the next day is acceptable.
A half-polished FYBF post is better than none at all.
It’s worth reminding ourselves:
Doing enough is more often than not, plenty.
My family and I will be away for a much needed holiday – Japan and Bali. We’ll be back refreshed and with lots of new stories early next year.
In the meantime, I’ll be starting a 6 part series – “Fears, Tears and Belly Laughs”
I’ve got a great line up of special bloggers to share their stories.
Make sure you link up and leave lots of lovely comments for my guests!
See ya in 2016!

Doing enough is always plenty, to keep sanity intact, which is the important thing 🙂 Have a wonderful holiday. Japan and Bali, wow, not jealous AT ALL, not a bit…. Sure!
Do you know, I realised this week, when Al flicked the TV channel away from the ABC, that I do truly loathe Big Bang Theory. Sorry. Al loves it. I don’t know what it is that grates on me so. Thanks for a year of #FYBF Friday Grace, it’s been ace xx

I had a wow moment this week actually and I came to a similar conclusion that doing that thing is enough, even if it ain’t perfect. I think you’ve had an incredible year Grace. I don’t know how you managed to work and keep your blog going and all the running you’ve been doing lately. I hope you have a wonderful break with your family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I hope 2016 is a wonderful year for you, the surfer and your twins. xx

Go and have the most wonderful memory-making holiday and FYBF will be awesome with your guests (ahem, I am thankful to be one!). Next year you are a school mum…ok, dont think about that yet. Love, Denyse xx

Great wow moments Grace… particularly love the fact that you’ve been able to rediscover your confidence. I’ve had 3yrs away from full time work – supposedly setting up my writing business which hasn’t really happened. I’ve done some work during that time (project management etc) but I ‘may’ be about to return to that kind of work on a part-time basis more officially and I’m scared shitless. My confidence has taken a huge dive since my seachange so I’m quite worried about my next steps!

Wow! I don’t watch The Big Bang Theory but even so I can see that that is the coolest thing ever!! A great message in your post, doing enough is indeed plenty and often leaves us as a much calmer, more together person than being that person who does everything. Have an awesome holiday xx

woooooow I’m so excited for your trip!! Japan and Bali are da bomb! haha.. Have a fun and safe one.. I think this is the first time the twinions are going to Japan too right?? So exciting!! Go wild at all the theme parks!
I love Lego and I think this year I learnt to let go more too. I’ve been blogging less and taking up less brand engagements to take it easy and write more of what I want. Learning to strengthen my mind and body through more exercising has been helpful to my health and attitude towards life too 🙂 I guess one of my wow moments was also being able to FINALLY lose the 5kg I’ve been saying I wanted to lose for so long!! 😛

Putting Lego together is actually a majorly good time – but my kids are now old enough that they want to do it all themselves. Annoying.
This years WOW was my wedding. And the learning was that I NEVER want to organise another wedding for as long as I live!
Enjoy your break.
