Apart from my love of all things that come with an adrenalin rush, I’m a sucker for blades of the roller or the ice kind. Need proof? Check it.
So, when World Square Shopping Centre asked me if I wanted to test out their ice skating rink, it was a big “Hells, YEAH!” from me.
Issue is, in the excitement of bringing out the adventurous streak in me, I tend to forget about the rest of my family. And the fact that I have to look after them. Oh.
But we got to the big white tent and it was all pretty smooth sailing even before we got on the ice.
Despite only being just a smidgeon under 3 and a half, there were little ice skates with double blades for the twinlets.
Cute, huh?
Then there were friendly penguins who helped them stay up. All we needed to do was push them along. Easy peasy nice and easy!
I will let you on a little secret, though. Mr Surfer needed Mr Penguin as much as the boys did. Just as he was about to plummet down, he asked me, “What’s the secret? What’s the trick? How do I stay UP??” Luckily, there are rink assistants who were able to give him a few tips and then he was fine. Still. He may know how to hang ten but “Blades of Glory” he certainly isn’t. Heh.
The twinlets had a ball and dare I say, I’ve created speed demons. Towards the end, they were both pleading that we go “Faster! Faster!!”
The hour zoomed by and it was definitely a great school holiday activity in the Sydney CBD.
The rink will be open until the 14th of July.
Remember, kidlets under the age of 5 need to be supervised by adults.
I have a feeling we’ll be back.
Cause you know, a family that skates together…has a helluva lotta fun together.

Love it! I took my kids and their friends to the one in Canberra last year. It was heaps of fun. And the penguins are awesome.

Those penguins are awesome!! What fun for everyone! I remember going skating for my niece’s birthday party one year & being sooooo awkward on the skates after a long absence from any such activity – must have looked hilarious – once I got my balance though – I went all Blades of Glory on everyone’s ass!! 🙂

Cool Grace! (Pardon the pun!) Is it real ice? And did the boys get going with out the penguins in the end? We have a rink in Hobart too, at the docks. It’s an all-year-round one with some kind of rubber surface and special skates. We well definitely have to try it out! I was thinking that my boys might not be up for it yet, but they are a similar age to your cuties. Have a great weekend, and thanks for hosting! xx

I had no idea they had set up an ice rink at the world square – thank you for enlightening me.
They had one last year (and I believe this year) in Parramatta Mall. It looked like great fun. I say looked like, because although I am not too shabby on a pair of skates, I was too scared to have a go after breaking my ankle. It has been a while now, so I should shake it off, but can I?

Those penguins are a FAB idea. Miss 16 and friends went ice skating yesterday – $18 for a four hour session – I was a bit shocked at the price. I suppose it’s been a long time since I went skating and obviously prices go up!

Loving those penguins, a great way to give kids the confidence to have a go at ice skating. I used to love skating, but after seeing a friend have the tops of her fingers sliced off, I kinda lost the nerve. 🙂

I loved your comment.. About you needing to remember it wasn’t just for you but the kids too! Still a big kid! I like that. This is a first for me. I have never seen Mr Surfer look so out of his, ahem, comfort zone!! Noting what Seana said, the Macquarie Centre Icerink was a “go to” place when my DD & D’S were kids ( we are going back 25 or more years!) and the best bit for me?? I could leave them there skating away & do a bit of solo shopping & pop back to sit by the glass watching them finish off & have their special morning tea waiting! Memories!! Denyse

Haven’t skated in years. Its a scary prospect at my age, going down on my bum, very ungracefully. But if we have the option of double blades, maybe, just maybe, I can do it!

That sure looks like so much fun, and how easy does Ice Skating Sound with Penguins to assist little ones. When I was younger I used to take Ice-Skating lessons every Saturday morning, I enjoyed it but wasn’t the best of the best at it 🙂
