It’s been very quiet on the bloggy front this week.
Busily tending to sickly, snotty twins (completely separate to last week’s disgusting gastro) and trying to prepare for #DPCON13, I just haven’t been up to saying much. And I ALWAYS have something to say!
Instead, I’ve been observing all my parenting fails. Now, don’t think I’m getting all guilt ridden, beating myself up for being a bad mum.
Been there, done that. Wrote the blog post.
I’ve finally discovered the trick in dealing with sick children and keeping your sanity.
When illness tampers with the temperament of children, it’s in the parents’ best interest to simply cave in.
Need to give them a dose of antibiotics?
Bribe them with some hot chips afterwards.
They’re up at 5:30am and refuse to go back to sleep?
Switch on the television.
Making a trip to the doctors for some poking and proding?
Let them play with the iPad to their heart’s content.
As a parent, scrambling to survive; getting through the tears, sleepless nights and find 10 minutes of goddamn peace and quiet: I will do anything.
Particularly, exposing pop songs with potentially explicit lyrics to my innocent, young children. It won’t win me the Mother of the Year award. Meh. I dropped out of those nominations long ago.
What have you succumbed to in order to get 10 minutes of respite? What fabulously trashy pop songs have you introduced to your young ones ?
Happy FYBF!

The iPad! If I need a few minute to recover from an epic park session, or I’m just not feeling great at all, or Mia is unwell and driving me crazy it’s always the iPad. Only thing that can keep her attention for longer than 5 mins.
Oh, and questionable pop songs? That shake your ass song by LMFAO. She loves the beat of it!

I used to be the one continually turning hubbys gangsta rap and hip hop down with disdain every time there was a ‘bad’ word but happily let the girls sing along to my ‘I’m so hot hot hot’, ‘shake your money maker’ type lyrics. I think theres a word for that? Hypocrite.
Sending your family some healthy, loving p-vibes. 🙂

totally agree that especially when they’re sick, anything goes! oh who am I kidding, anything goes here all the time if it means 10 minutes peace! Now that N is at school, he is LOVING reading eggs and will happily sit and do it for an hour. So he gets that quite a bit now. as for trashy songs, he is partial to some Bruno Mars “I think I’m gonna marry you, don’t say no no no no no, just say yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, and we’ll go go go go go, if you’re ready…”

My young daughter (6 yrs) went through a Britney Spears phase, so I would hear daughter repeat lines from the songs including as she entered a room: “Its Britney, bitch”. Charming. Now she is interested at 8yr in Nicky Minaj, and suffice to say, after her repeating some lyrics, we quickly downloaded the radio (clean) version of some songs!

Absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of bribery if it brings you 10 minutes of peace. Mine are pretty happy with iphone/ipod time especially if it’s during the week when they are usually not allowed. Oh and ofcourse the promise of a cool iceblock if Mr.7 eats all his broccoli, it’s a winner too.

I stopped playing commercial radio in the car some time ago due to the luridness of the lyrics … but that didn’t stop me taking it upon myself to grab my son’s two stuffed wombats and make them dance and sing, for his bedtime lullaby, to ‘All the Single Ladies’, the anti-feminist mantra. Yay.
