Back to back interstate visitors made this Mama a busy one this week. Love it when it happens. For weeks, I live the humble Nigella No Friends life then BAM!
They came in droves! Well, 4 of them. (Parents count, right?)
For those who know the lovely Daisy will also be familiar with her sharp wit, wicked humor and love of home made cocktails.
Last time it was all about the sangrias. And this trip?
Well. Who needs a Piña Colada when you can have a Cocolada?
The unmistakable rum based flavour with a dash of pineapple and coconut juice at a bargain price of $15.99 a bottle. (Available at all good Woolies stores and no, this is not a sponsored post but I really didn’t have to mention that because it would’ve been at the very top of this post, or is it the bottom?)
Anyway.
You know a concoction is close enough to the real thing when you can’t stop singing that Piña Colada song each time our makeshift cocktail glasses were topped up. (You’re singing it now, arentcha?)
Yes, folks. You can always wing it with a mixed drink. Even make them taste just as good without the alcohol.
But you can’t fake a friend. A loyal and loving one at that.
Now sing it with me:
“If you like Piña Cocoladas or getting caught in the rain…”
Have you ever chosen fake over bona fide? Or do you always go for the real deal?

I always buy bottles of fake cocktails when in Hawaii. There is a particularly good Mai Tai mix for less than $10 a bottle over there. Cocktails in the room before we head out for dinner is soooo much cheaper 🙂

I’m definitely a fake it till you make it kind of girl – stuff that is, not personality, at least I hope. It is hard to justify buying the real deal often. Looks like you had a great week, so nice to have good friends x

Even online friends are the real deal, don’t you think? This has been open to debate for some time, but proven when in fact you *do* get the chance to meet in person.
I was once fortunate enough to be invited to a VODKA COCKTAIL TASTE TESTING market research group. I thought all my birthdays had come at once. I liked the Cosmo but the one I loved most was never put into production: the Appletini. What they did do was make green apple flavoured vodka, which was actually very, very nice indeed!

This post makes me crave a girls’ night and a cocktail (or 5) so bad! I’ve never had a mocktail, but perhaps I should try one when I’m feeling lonely and pretend it’s the real deal. I have been known to pour lemonade into a champagne glass and pretend the former is the latter when there’s no booze in the house! Have a great weekend. xxx

Fake fake fake! Well, unless it’s shit, and then I up the ante until I get to a product that I’m happy with. For somethings that resting place is top of the line, but you know for most things I’m perfectly happy with the non-brand name stuff, so why pay for something that’s not going to make you happier than you already are.

I’d never settle for fake when it comes to friends, but when it comes to drinks, sometimes fake is even better! I had a mocktail at dinner last night and it was better than if I’d had the real thing, truly!
