For all the naysayers and those who shudder at the mere thought of accepting an invitation to join along – karaoke is the shiz, y’all.
Almost a decade of living in Japan and spending at least a third of that time in dark, smokey studios, it was the utmost essential form of survival as an expat.
You sang out your exhaustion, frustration, excitement, heartbreak, in top gear, with no…absolutely not an ounce of inhibition.
Completely and utterly liberating.
And back here in the hustle and bustle of Sydney’s George St. the atmosphere was just as electrifying.
Well, me and my home girls thought so.
But I will shut up and let the video do the convincing.
Take a seat, grab an Irish coffee (it’s never too early) and join in the fun, if you dare…
Are you a Karaoke fan? Or one of the naysayers? Let me convert you!
What’s your go to karaoke song? Is it the same one you sing in the shower?

Firstly, I love the new FYBF Digital Parents button. Very suave!
Secondly, I would LOVE to do Karaoke but I just can’t sing and I wouldn’t put anyone through that pain. Their ears might bleed.
Thirdly, GO YOU!

I haven’t done Karaoke in years and years and YEARS! But when I do, I love it despite not being able to sing! Usually because I’m drunk and for that reason I think I sound fantastic (at the time)! Haha.

YES! I love karaoke and gosh can you girls sing. lol Don’t let Ricky see this clip. Look out! We used to have a karaoke bar near my house when I was growing up. As soon as I turned 18, I hit the stage with sisters and we sang LIKE A VIRGIN! You’re so right, no inhibitions when you’re up there. Looking back now, what the hell was I thinking?? x

Once upon a time, there was an awkward teenager, who had a beautiful voice. So beautiful in fact she sang in the Australian youth choir for a small period of time, however believing it not “cool” she hid away from her singy friends and then later “broke” her voice after a particularly cold night singing at the top of her lungs. The awkward teenager grew into a Mummy, who only sings in soft tones to her children, and even they no longer approve of her strained voice. Karaoke would be a cruel thing for this now Mummy to perform, for those listening anyway.xx

I adore Karaoke. My favourite song to perform is Whip It by Devo. You don’t really have to be able to sing for that one! The trouble is whenever I get up on the stage I start laughing so hard I can’t get any words out. I want to sing Karaoke with you Grace!

I LOVE KARAOKE! Does Royal Pines have a karaoke bar?! I really want to karaoke it up with bloggers next week, ha!
Anything Shania, Sheryl Crow, Kate Miller-Heidke or Taylor Swift gets my vote. That makes me sound like a country fan, but it’s just too fun to put the twang in your voice. Or opera it up like Kate! Also love doing ‘Thorn in my Side’ or getting a group up to sing Spice Girls. Or anything Disney. Okay, stopping now before I list every song ever written. x

I love that karaoke is virtually a recreational sport in Japan. What a great stress relief! I think many more Aussies could get their sing on to de-stress! I love a bit of a tune myself and would love to give you a sing off one day! ;

I absolutely LOVE karaoke! Give me a couple of glasses of wine, Karaoke machine and a good song, and I’ll let it rip. BUT….I’m scared after a past Karaoke experience with a group of friends at a Karaoke restaurant…we sung ‘Like a Virgin’. There were death stares around the whole restaurant…never again.

What a fabulous way to start my Friday morning! This is hilarious! We tried karaoke (twice) in Japan recently. The first time we had a couple of friends with us – a father and teenaged daughter…and it was very funny. I choose to do Abba’s ‘Money, Money, Money” – the highlight of which was definitely not my singing, but the lyrics on the screen: “Money, money, money…must be fanny…in the rich man’s world”. We were all nearly peeing ourselves with laughter.

Private Karaoke yes. In public, no. Can’t say I ever have. But did once approach the entertainer at a vineyard after too many tastings and asked could I do a duet with her. She granted me my wish. I blundered my way through ‘The Captain’ by Kasey Chambers. Only when I returned to my seat did I learn the entertainer had been a recipient of a Golden Guitar at the Australian Country Music Awards just a few months earlier! Lol. At that moment I wished that the ground would open up and swallow me!

Oh you bring back great memories of my 30th birthday. When I was turning 16 I fantasised about having a karaoke birthday party. My parents were too poor to hire a machine and there was no Sing-star back then either, so years later I finally got to have my karaoke party. I LOVED it. And because it was my birthday I may or may not have hogged the mic all night. haha. I think I should come to Sydney and karaoke with you. I loved the video!
