So, right about now…as you read this week’s FYBF post, I’ll be saying my final farewells to afternoon massages and lazy cocktails by the pool. Everything good has to end sometime, right? Otherwise we don’t appreciate them when they happen.
Well, that’s what I’ll keep telling myself on the plane trip home.
Let me introduce you to our 4th blogger of the FYBF Fears, Tears and Belly Laughs series!
Emily over at You Learn Something New Every Day has been one of my fave blogs for ages now. She’s funny, insightful and always sees the good humour despite being a heavily sleep deprived mother.
It was only natural I assigned her with the second “Belly Laughs” theme.
Give her a warm welcome and of course, as always, lots of comment love!

I would do anything for chocolate, but I won’t do… Who am I kidding? There’s nothing I won’t do for chocolate!
Once upon a time, a friend of mine won a 10kg block of chocolate.
While I would have celebrated this win by eating the entire block myself in one sitting, she decided to throw a party and invite everyone around to assist with the eating.
Silly girl. Silly, silly girl. But I was, of course, thrilled.
She set the date and sent out the invitations. And that was that.
The weekend rolled around, and I got ready for the party. I was SOOOO excited. Of course. Anyone would be, but my love for chocolate is beyond ridiculous.
I had recently injured my ankle (of course – all good tales start like that), so was on crutches (of course). The party was on the other side of the city, and I didn’t have a car. I had to hobble 1km on the crutches to the train station, then transfer trains, then transfer to a tram, then hobble 800m to my friend’s house.
But I was SOOOO excited. Of course. Anyone would be, but my love for chocolate is beyond ridiculous. The injury was not going to stop me.
I set off. I sweated. I was uncomfortable. I made it to the train, panting. I wasn’t offered a seat. I switched trains. I managed to get a seat. I hobbled out to the tram. I wasn’t offered a seat. I fell onto someone when the tram lurched to a stop. I was finally offered a seat. I disembarked two stops later. I neared the house. I dripped sweat, I itched, I ached. But chocolate was near! I was so close!
Almost two hours after setting off from my house, I finally made it to my friend’s house. Just in time to see her driving off.
Puzzled, I hobbled up the front steps and rang the doorbell. Perhaps she’d just ducked out to get some wine. Her housemates would be able to tell me.
After what seemed an eternity, one of her housemates opened the door. I knew her well enough to call her a friend, but not so well that she’d ever think I was there to visit her. She looked at me, confused, and said, “She just left.”
My smile faltered a little. “Yeah, I just saw her. Has she gone to get some wine?”
Furrowed brow. “No, she’s gone to work.”
“Oh.” Silence. “So, did she just get called in? Is she just filling in until they find someone else?”
“No, she’s working. Were you supposed to catch up tonight?”
“Yeah, well, isn’t she having a party?”
“What?”
“The chocolate party. Isn’t that tonight?”
Silence. Then…
Laughter.
“EM! You came for the chocolate party? You’re a month early! She hasn’t even got the block yet! YOU NUFFER! Oh, wait until I tell her! AND YOU’RE ON CRUTCHES! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA…” (This last bit went on for some time.)
Yep, that’s right. I went to a chocolate party A MONTH EARLY, hobbling my way there on crutches.
I left. I seethed at myself. I cried a bit. I dripped sweat, I itched, I ached. Almost two hours after setting off from my friend’s house, I finally made it home. And collapsed in exhaustion. And self-directed frustration.
But, one month later, I walked – crutches-free – to the train station, again completed the journey, and attended the party. The actual party. With actual chocolate.
And chocolate and I lived happily ever after.

Well, lets face it, you could not have partaken in the wine on crutches with a 2 hour commute home. It was all the better to wait – right?

Hmmm, this is true. I did enjoy the wine almost half as much as the chocolate once I actually attended the party!

That’s hilarious and so much determination for chocolate, but if I were invited to a party like that I’d super excited too, the chance to enjoy both my loves – wine and chocolate. I’m sure you enjoyed it just as much when the party came around. 🙂

Lol. Oh Emily, this is hilarious. You know, there is one stage of my life where I would have done this too. Anything for chocolate eh?! When I was a kid I received a family size block of cadburys chocolate for my birthday. It was the happiest day of my life 😉

No, I’m pretty sure he (still just my boyfriend at the time) was away that weekend. If I recall correctly, I actually got all the way home before realising that we didn’t have any chocolate, then hobbled all the way back down to the train station for overpriced vending machine chocolates.

Mystery Case says
After your initial efforts you should have won the 10 kilo block by default. lol too funny but can totally relate. My family are all chocolate mad and no chocolate is safe or lasts long in this house. Coles have Cadbury blocks for $2.39 this week but a limit of 6. I currently have 24 blocks after taking a friend and doing two trips in the house. Why? because Christmas is just around the corner and they will make (if I can keep them hidden) excellent chocolate additions to my cheesecake, icecream and also stocking fillers.
Mystery Case recently posted..Keeping Up with Perth Upmarket?!

I was very proud of myself yesterday and did NOT succumb to Coles’s evil low-priced chocolate selling scheme. SO STRONG! (Of course, it’s all I’m thinking about now though.)
If I had 24 blocks, they’d all be gone by this time next week. Not even a hint of exaggeration.

Janet @ Redland City Living says
Ohhhhh dear … poor you. Having had a leg in plaster for 6 weeks, and making a similar trip via public transport to get to the hospital for a checkup, I sympathise. It’s amazing how thoughtless people are when you are obviously struggling with crutches or whatever. When I finally got back to my home train station, absolutely exhausted, THEY. WOULDN’T. EVEN. LET. ME. USE. THEIR. PHONE. TO. CALL. A. CAB. and I had to walk about 800m to a public phone. WHAT. THE.!!!!! So rude. If that happened now everybody would know about it but in those days I was very meek and mild and didn’t do/say anything!
PS I am a chocoholic also 🙂

There are the genuinely unobservant people who just don’t notice you because they’re engrossed in a book/their phone/themselves, but then there are others who pretend not to see you and just don’t want to stand up. And GRRRR.
I can’t believe you couldn’t borrow their phone! That’s low.
