It had been an almost two month wait.
Well, two months and the couple of years it took to convince my husband that the wooden slate that kept the couch sofa bed cushions from sinking wasn’t going to cut it anymore.
At least not for my back, anyway.
But then came the imminent advent of Netflix and most importantly, the final FINAL (because one final isn’t dramatic enough) of Mad Men.
And there was no frickin’ way I was going to be a potato on a slouch couch.
Me and Don Draper had to get reacquainted in comfort. Know what I’m sayin’?
After much deliberation and heated discussions in various furniture retailers, we decided on the luxurious Ashton two and three seater.
Fabric Type? Keylargo, please.
Colour? Pebble, please.
Dimensions? Massive, ‘mmmkay?
In fact, so mofo massive that we should’ve relied on our instincts rather than believe the sales hungry furniture people who convinced us that we wouldn’t have ANY problems fitting through that tight space between the front and lounge room door.
Not to mention the stair case they had to contend with right outside.
Those poor delivery guys, they literally tried to move walls to keep this customer happy.
“No bro, we gotta swing it around, first, bro”
*Swivel, swivel*
*Grunt, grunt*
“Bro, we’re back to where we started, bro”
*Pivot, pivot*
*Pant, pant*
In the meantime, I was having a mental game of “Bro Bingo” in my head.
Then, the defining moment when my bros tried to squeeze the giant oblong through the rectangular door.
Pushing, pulling, twisting, nudging.
Leading to the dreaded words:
“Sorry. You’re going to have to call the furniture shop”
So, now in my garage sits a perfectly beautiful comfortable three seater lounge, waiting for the upholsterer to drop by sometime today to unscrew one of the arms, make another (hopefully successful) attempt to fit it through that frickin’ door, then reattach the arm again.
Wish he could do the same thing with my sanity.
Anyway, we make the most of the positives, right? At least there’s one couch for me to slouch on, right?
And well, there’s the makeshift furniture fitting.
Thank goodness, I decided to keep the mattress of our old sofa bed before sending it to furniture heaven.

What a bummer that is my dear, and I don’t suppose there’s a wine cellar, TV and endless supply of chocolate in the garage so you could escape to your new couch when you feel like it? Well you can at least chalk this one up to experience. Love the cute pic of family on the mattress. HOW FRUSTRATING! xx

Nice move. You can never regret a new couch. We got one a year ago. A swanky leather one after our last fake leather one started peeling and dropping off it’s cover. It was awful especially with a newly crawling Vicklet who liked to put things in his mouth! I am ready to resume my Don Draper affair as well…. bring it x

Our lounge has dies a slow death in the same way. We are making do with it until we move though and it was very hard to get through the door!! You look very comfy set up in the lounge in the meantime!! We haven’t got Netflix yet, but are considering it. We have Foxtel so debating whether to keep that as well or just netflix. Nice couch. I needed a new one when I moved but took me ages to find one and I sat on MANY couches to make my final decision. It’s comfy but its cushions are feather-stuffed and they constantly poke through the material. My lounge room sometimes looks like I’ve been partaking in some kind of ritual sacrifice!

This is such a funny, yet sadly familiar story to me! We’ve moved house many, many times…and our furniture parts have had to be disassembled and re-assembled so many times, it would be better if we had bought Lego furniture. What a lovely new couch though! I hope un-attaching and reattaching of the arm does the trick.

Feel the frustration. Salespeople who sell you stuff arent always the most accurate at the technical details…
We are renting a house with a spiral freaking staircase. We had not much to choose from at the time. The removalists got most of what we needed to be ‘up’ except one bed, so over the balcony and up she went..to my horror. NEVER having stairs in a house again (remember I wrote this, ok?) D

Ha ha love it! Good on you for putting the old mattress to good use. I could do one of those in my woman cave. Hang on! I don’t have a woman cave. 🙂 I remember mum and dad purchasing a new sofa years ago and they were told there would be a 16 week wait. 16 weeks later , when mum followed up, the company had gone into liquidation and not only did they lose their cash but they never received a sofa. 🙁

Loving your new couch Grace, but how frustrating that you have to wait for its partner! The boys look like they’re loving the mattress on the floor, a bit of an adventure hey?
When we bought a new mattress, we put the old one in the back of the ute at the drive-in, before we threw it out. Bella wanted to keep it there!
I love a good TV marathon. We’re working through Sleepy Hollow and Suits at the moment.
Finger crossed you’re on your new couch tonight, hun xx

Yes have experienced the couch-too-big-for-the-door scenario before. Had to take off the front door as the arms didn’t come off at the time and no garage to put it in. Have also spent a few nights on an old sofa bed mattress on the floor waiting for it to arrive! Makes you very hesitant to ever move unless they buy the house with the couch in it.
Haven’t got into Netfflix yet but Stan is a favourite around here – Just finished watching the first series of Better Call Saul – a little bit of Breaking Bad flavour. And to avoid the streaming stutter (we’re all on it at the same time it seems), I’ve just bought the first season of Orange is the New Black on DVD. Old school, eh? xx
