Since Darren Percival’s duet with him on The Voice, Mr Surfer seems to have developed a tiny man crush on the suave Keith Urban.
Well actually, I exaggerate. It’s more of an admiration for the country singer’s gifted guitar and song-writing skills.
I’m the one who thinks he’s a hot babe…ahems.
I bought my husband a beautiful acoustic guitar for his birthday a few years ago. The main intention was to motivate him to play more music and write songs again.
The ulterior motive was to get rid of his old, twangy electric guitar with the worn out amp.
Anywhoo.
Once in awhile when inspiration takes over, Mr Surfer will randomly strum away at a song. Any song.
Which is great. Nothing more romantic than a man who plays the guitar. Well, to me, anyway.
But he’s yet to expand his repertoire and play some new pieces from beginning to end.
He tackles a new song and the opening bars are usually flawless. But then, when it’s time to take it to the bridge or the chorus…dead silence.
Rather than persevering through the difficult parts, he’ll just start all over again.
Like a little locomotive train, chugging along nicely but then suddenly gets stuck at the bend. Only to reverse all the way back to the station.
So, now that we have this sudden love for all things Urban, Mr Surfer has been diligently studying YouTube tutorials on how to play like Keith, particularly “Without You”.
With its soulful melody, flowing guitar riffs and moving lyrics, you can see that Nicole’s found herself a very nice catch, indeed.
(Take that, Tom!)
Yet, in his attempts to get this one right, Mr Surfer is back to being a broken record.
With the guitar on his lap, sitting in front of the computer, we find ourselves in a repeated scenario:
Play YouTube clip
Pause
Play guitar
Stop
Click back to the beginning
Repeat…
Aaarrgh!
It all got too much last Friday night.
As I was on my laptop anyway, I thought I’d take a shot in the Twitterdom darkness.
I made a plea to Keith…
Still awaiting response from Nashville.
